This Christmas will be my first that I’ll be spending not in the south and also the first time I might experience a white Christmas! Earlier this year, my mom moved up north where most of the rest of my family lives after 30+ years in Louisiana! Jered and I are heading up there at the end of this week and it will be the first time I’ll be visiting since the big move. Now, I’ve definitely been up to Ohio before, however it was usually for weddings which meant I was really only there in the spring, summer, and fall (I’m starting to figure out why). Needless to say, this southern girl has been checking the weather religiously – NINE degrees ya’ll, one night it’s supposed to be NINE degrees!
Because I am a southerner who is a total wuss when the temperature drops, ever since Black Friday I’ve been stocking up on winter staples and one trend that I’m excited to try is the parka coat! I’ve been seeing parkas a lot lately, but they can be a little heavy in milder climates like here in Texas so I’ve never really needed one – but my trip up to the frozen arctic tundra gave me the perfect excuse to grab one! Let me just say, this parka is SO warm and as someone who has a closet full of peacoats, I can definitely see how a casual heavy coat will come in handy.
Now for styling this bad boy. For this look, I wanted to keep my outfit super casual, but still put together – as in not quite athleisure. I threw on my comfiest pair of girlfriend jeans (pro tip – these are so much more flattering than bf jeans for petite girls!) and a oversized holiday-plaid blanket scarf. I added my new booties, that have turned out to be one of my favorite purchases this season, because I felt the block heel and pointed toe really gave this outfit a “street style” vibe.
