Ya’ll, the 4th of July is literally right around the corner and tomorrow is the official first day of summer. Seriously, where has the year gone?? Not to be a broken record but it seems like just a minute ago I was showing you guys my favorite winter coats and now my car is reading 108 as I’m leaving the office! (Yes, it sucks.)
Anyways, one of my favorite trends as the summer heats up each year is seeing all the Americana pieces in stores and out and about, butttt if you’ve seen one blue seersucker dress you’ve seen them all (even though I still might have like six in my shopping bag right now…). Not that I’m knocking the slightly obnoxious “USA! USA! USA!” shirts that I will definitely be breaking out come Independence day, but here’s some tips if you want to add a bit of red, white, and blue to your everyday summer outfits without being too over-the-top!
GET THE LOOK:
If you’re still looking for that perfect July 4th cookout outfit, you definitely don’t need to go get a bunch of stuff with Old Glory screen printed on them (but if you do, more power to ya!), here’s a couple of my tips for incorporating a patriotic vibe to your look without everyday pieces you may already have in your closet!
1. Stick with one color and solids: I’m SURE you have a pair of denim shorts or a your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans, throw on a navy or white solid top and you’re good to go! Bonus points if you can throw in a statement piece in red or white to really make your look pop. The best part? Each piece is totally versatile and wearable for the rest of the summer!
2. Find unique pieces and don’t be afraid to bend the rules: While there is definitely a fine line between unique and kitschy, don’t be afraid to take some risks! I love my romper because the pops of pink mixed in that gives it interest. Also, rules are meant to be broken! Think off white or a different shade of blue for the 4th of July, hot pink instead of bright red for Christmas, or maybe a neon yellow instead of the traditional Easter pastels.
3. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! Accessories are a great and more budget friendly way to try out the latest trends without fully committing. They’re also a great way to add a bit of festivity for holidays in an otherwise everyday look! I love these stars and stripes sunnies, or this American-inspired clutch to add some patriotic flair to your July 4th look!
When I saw this romper, I just knew I had to order it. It’s just too perfect for July 4th, but still totally wearable throughout the rest of the summer. Also, the stripes plus muted pinks and blues makes it look like a fun lolly pop! If you’d been a reader of this blog for a while, you’ll know that I am all about versatility – so while I definitely have my american flag shorts and my USA shirt that I pull out for those few days a year, I love how this has a bit more subtly to it and is a bit more wearable.
Romper <– Under $30! As someone who is 5’3″ and for whom rompers can very quickly go into “frumpy” territory, I can tell you that this one is super flattering and fits really well! // Bag (My actual bag is SOLD OUT! Ugh, and I’m not sure if there will be any more in stock, so I’ve linked to another laser cut shoulder bag thats very similar) // Shoes (My actual ones are old so I linked to an almost exact pair — here’s a more budget friendly dupe, though!) // Necklace (Again, my actual one is an old version, but this one is an almost exact version!)
To my American readers, how are you planning on incorporating red, white, and blue into your wardrobe this summer?
